Our History

The McHenry County Computer Club started out as a Commodore computer club in 1982. The first meeting was held in the Century Business Systems office on Route 14 in Crystal Lake, just a few doors from Sherman Plumbing. Ten people showed up. The meeting went so well, they decided to hold more meetings, and the club was born. The first president was elected that night, and plans for the club's charter and by-laws were discussed. Some of the original members are still active in the club today.

Starting out with Commodore computers and then moving on to PC compatible computers, our club has grown more every year; the bigger it gets, the better it becomes. The club's goals in 1982 were to gain the knowledge of how to operate our computers, to learn what software is available and what to do when the machines break down or present difficulties. Those are still the goals of our club.

Membership

Membership in the McHenry County Computer Club is open to anyone interested in computers and home computing, regardless of their level of computer knowledge. Membership dues are $26 per year, and dues cover a member's spouse, too, though only one membership vote is included per paid membership.

Persons interested in the group are invited to visit up to two meetings before paying dues. That will give them an introduction to our organization before making a commitment.

When you are ready to become a member, please download an application here.

Meeting Agenda

Most of our meetings take this format:
09:00   General Business Meeting
09:15   Break
09:30   Demo
10:15   Break
10:30   Q&A

Coffee and doughnuts are available during the breaks, along with a chance to get to know your fellow members. We occasionally celebrate special occasions, such as our yearly anniversary (in September) and our holiday get-together (in March). At these times, meeting format may change.
